Different Materials for Kitchen Cupboard Doors

If you are considering replacing or buying new doors for your kitchen cupboards, consider inspecting the materials and craftsmanship first before shelling out your cash. You don’t want to be replacing your cabinets or kitchen cabinet doors every year, do you? There are two common factors to look into when buying doors – the finishing and the edging of each door.

There are basically five finishing and edging that can be used in any type of wood. These would be Solid Wood, PVC Vinyl Wrap, Duco Spray, Veneer, and Melamine Chipboard and as you will see are different to the kitchen worktop finishes. The first type of finishing – solid wood – is considered to be the most expensive among the five; however, depending on the type of wood, prices also vary. For example, pinewood would surely be cheaper compared to other types of wood. On the other hand, PVC Vinyl Wrap is commonly used for any household cabinet because first, it is cheaper; second, it holds the edge of cabinet doors so that they don’t drag loose very easily.

The Duco finishing is expensive but it could give your cabinets and cabinet doors a high gloss finish that could almost allow you to see your own reflection; like what mirrors do. Comparing the price, the Duco finishing is almost half the price of PVC wrap doors; however, you don’t have to deal with “scratch” issues. Like PVC Vinyl, Veneer doors are also commonly used in the kitchen and could be edged with fleece using impact edging. The same type of edging is used on melamine chipboard doors. Door edgings need to be smooth. And this could only be done if the core of the door is made with a sturdy wood, like Supawood. Chipboards simply do not work as they are frail and could chip very quickly.

Finally, just to add more perspective on the matter at hand, if you are spending most of your time in the kitchen and want to make it look classy, invest on cabinets or cabinet doors that are made with durable wood. They are expensive but, you are assured of the quality. If you want to make your kitchen look neat and elegant but do not mind changing your cabinet doors every year or two, then go for cheaper kitchen cabinet doors that look nice but are made with less durable materials.
